PRINT PUBLICITY

Local California papers gave The Wildlife of Little Hot Springs Valley a fair amount of publicity in 2008 around the time it first aired on PBS. This page features commentary and links to article text and images of the published material.

Stories on my work were published by three papers: The Intermountain News (weekly based in Burney), the Mountain Echo (weekly based in Fall River Mills), and the Record Searchlight (daily based in Redding). Three of the most significant articles are below.

“Fall River grad’s wildlife film to be shown on local PBS Television”
- The Intermountain News (April 23, 2008)

This article re-prints (with minor grammar deviations) a press release I distributed to various papers in an effort to promote Wildlife’s inaugural broadcast. I’m especially thankful to Craig Herrington (publisher) for helping Wildlife make the front cover.

“Young filmmaker captures wonder of nature” - Record Searchlight
(May 1, 2008)

This article pulls from my press release but also includes independent research and expanded coverage. I’m notably grateful to Jessica Skropanic for interviewing me and helping Wildlife get placed on the front cover of the Record Searchlight’s weekly entertainment guide: “DATE: Dining, Arts, Theater, Entertainment.”

The Record Searchlight serves Redding and many surrounding rural areas. While growing up, many people in my area (about 80 miles northeast of Redding) subscribed to the Searchlight. Just Redding itself had a population of about 90,000 in 2009. Thus, having my documentary on the cover of the town’s main newspaper’s entertainment guide was a huge coup. As far as local print publicity went, that was about the best I could hope for.

“Tristan Howard wows theatre audience” - Mountain Echo (July 22, 2008)

On July 19, 2008, Wildlife screened at the Fall River Theatre. Thanks to Sue Edmondson (yet another reporter to whom I’m grateful), the Mountain Echo published a little article covering the event.
